Benefits that are really worth it

In short: The benefits truly worth negotiating are the ones that regularly save or earn you money, time or development — training budget, home-office flexibility, additional vacation days, pension contributions and good equipment. Fruit baskets, foosball tables and team events are nice extras, but no substitute for fair pay or a strong base package.

The benefits with real value

  • Training budget & learning time: pays directly into your next salary.
  • Home office/flexibility: saves time and money — often several hundred euros in commuting costs per month.
  • Additional vacation days: real quality of life, hard to put a price on.
  • Pension provision/contributions: unglamorous, valuable in the long run.
  • Good equipment & tooling: sounds minor, makes everyday work noticeably better.

The nice but overrated ones

Fruit basket, foosball table, team events: lovely, but no substitute for fair pay or development. Don't let them console you over a weak base package.

How to evaluate benefits

Ask yourself: Does this regularly save or earn me money, time or development? If yes — negotiable and valuable. If no — a nice extra, not an argument.
